This fourth grand edition of the “Classic winds” International Competition will take place in Dubai, UAE, from 7 February to 1 March 2023. The event will provide an engaging and exciting platform for talented young flautists, clarinettists, saxophonists and oboists to demonstrate their prodigious skills, as well as promising unique performance opportunities including the chance to perform alongside a live orchestra in the event’s exciting final round. Dubai has been chosen for both its incredible cultural diversity as well as the prestige and professionalism it brings to the many events it hosts throughout the year, ensuring this fourth iteration of “Classic Winds” stands to be the most engaging and prolific yet. The initiative is organised and managed by SAMIT Event Group, organisations with a proven track record built on years of experience directing large-scale cultural events around the world.

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you all to the fourth edition of our competition. Ever since the first iteration of this project, we have worked hard to make sure that each subsequent event is a step up from those of the past, both in terms of scope and ambition, as well as with regards to quality, and I can promise you that this fourth edition will be no exception.
Unlike previous editions, the 2023 Classic Winds competition will be held between February 14 and March 1, and shall, for the first time ever, be taking place in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai, one of the most magnificent and beautiful cities in the world. This global city will serve as the perfect backdrop to our competition, which shall this time be open to four different instruments within the wind category – namely flute, oboe, clarinet and saxophone – thereby giving more musicians the opportunity to showcase their abilities, test their limits, and win awards and prizes that will help them further their musical careers.

From its very inception, this contest was designed with the aim of helping young, talented artists achieve their potential, and its expansion into the Middle East is indicative of this core mission, and marks an exciting new chapter for Classic Winds. Aspiring professional musicians in this region will now have the same chances and experiences as those that their counterparts in other areas of the world have been benefiting from for years, and it is our firm hope that through the example set by Classic Winds and the other competitions, festivals and academies that we organise, more and more individuals and institutions shall see the potential that lies in this region, and take action to realise it.
I wish to extend my gratitude to CMDI Group, our partners in this endeavour who were instrumental in making this event possible. I would also like to thank all of you here for joining us in our love and appreciation for classical music, and for proving once again that music is truly the universal language, capable of transcending all borders and boundaries. I trust that all our audience members will be able to enjoy this production we have worked so hard on, and to our competitors I wish the very best of luck. May all your hard work and preparation pay off!
